Cleveland, Ohio – Maria Weybrecht, 23, is once again organizing a special event, Wings of Wonder™, in hopes it may help kids temporarily forget their serious illness. It has, after all, helped Weybrecht face her own.

Weybrecht was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 19, just one month after obtaining her private pilot license. After being diagnosed, she founded Kids in Flight™, a local non-profit organization that hosts events like Wings of Wonder, which gives children and their families sightseeing flights around the Cleveland area with experienced, licensed pilots.

Now in its fourth year, Wings of Wonder is Saturday, July 22 at Burke Lakefront Airport. The entire event is free to registered participants.

“Wing of Wonder gives seriously ill children a chance to soar with their dreams,” said Weybrecht.

Weybrecht’s dreams of becoming a pilot were put on hold after her diagnosis. Although still battling the disease, her love of flying remains strong.

“We want to give these amazing children a chance to escape,” said Weybrecht. “Wings of Wonder enables families to be together in a stress-free environment without the struggles they endure in everyday life. For one day, these children are not sick. For one day, they are just kids having fun!”

In addition to offering airplane rides, the Wings of Wonder event includes other aviation-related activities including arts and crafts, educational exhibits, clowns, magicians, aircraft displays, food and more.

Wings of Wonder is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The rain date is Sunday, July 23. Kids in Flight is still accepting registrations from families with seriously ill children at www.kidsinflight.org. For those interested in volunteering or making a donation, information is also available on the website.
