Cleveland, OhioKids In Flight™, the local non-profit organization that uses aviation to empower seriously ill children, has received a grant of $10,000.00 from the David H. and Barbara M. Jacobs Charitable Trust.
"With this grant we can continue to provide the unique experience of flight to ill children at a time in their life when they are in need of hope," said Maria Weybrecht, president of Kids In Flight. "The support and compassion the David H. & Barbara M. Jacobs Charitable Trust has shown to this organization can't be understated."
The David H. & Barbara M. Jacobs Charitable Trust previously contributed a $10,000 grant in 2006.
Kids in Flight was founded by Weybrecht of Eastlake, Ohio in 2002 when she was 20 years old. Its mission is to use aviation as a tool to empower seriously ill children and their families through flight experiences and educational programs. The organization's primary program is their annual event, Wings of Wonder™. Since 2003, Kids in Flight has given children and their families sightseeing flights around the Cleveland area with experienced, licensed pilots free of charge. In addition to airplane rides, the event includes other aviation-related activities including arts and crafts, educational exhibits, clowns, magicians, aircraft displays, food and more.
The philosophy behind the program is that when in flight, objects below appear smaller. For children fighting serious illnesses, the escape and excitement of flying can give them a new perspective. Through Kids in Flight programs, children are encouraged to have a positive attitude and reach for their dreams.
It is Weybrecht's goal to eventually take Kids In Flight nationwide.
