In addition to offering airplane rides, the Wings of Wonder event includes other aviation-related activities including arts and crafts, educational exhibits, clowns, magicians, food, music and more. Historical and military aircraft such as the Commemorative Air Force World War II SNJ-4 and Mansfield Air National Guard C-130H Hercules will also be on display. The entire event is at no cost to registered participants.
Where: Burke Lakefront Airport, 1501 N. Marginal Road, Cleveland 44114
When: Saturday, July 21
Time: 11 AM to 5 PM
Who: Kids in Flight is the brainchild of Maria Weybrecht, 24. Weybrecht was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 19, just one month after obtaining her private pilot license. She was valedictorian, summa cum laude, at CSU in Dec. 2005 and is pursuing a master’s degree in business administration.
Why: Through the thrill of flight, children and their families share a unique bonding experience that will be remembered forever. In flight, objects below appear smaller and for children fighting serious illness, the escape of flying gives them a new perspective.
